Hi, coders! Today we’re looking at one of the key features of the web – hyperlinks in HTML. They are literally what holds the whole internet together!

Hyperlinks are one of the most important parts of HTML documents. They let you create links to other web pages, documents, images, videos and other resources on the internet.

To create a hyperlink in HTML, use the <a> tag with the href attribute, which holds the URL of the resource you want to link to. For example, to create a link to Google, use this code:

HTML / XML
<a href="https://www.google.com">Google</a>

This creates a link with the text “Google” that takes the user to the Google home page.

If you need more detailed information about HTML hyperlinks, I recommend this resource from W3Schools. There you’ll find information about the different types of hyperlinks, the attributes of the <a> tag and how to use them.

🔗 The basic <a> tag:

  • <a href="URL">text</a> lets you create a link to another web page, document or file.
  • The href attribute sets where the link leads.

🔍 Open in a new tab:

  • Add target="_blank" to the <a> tag to open the link in a new browser tab.

🔏 Anchor links:

  • Use <a href="#section"> to create a link that jumps to a specific section on the same page.

📧 Email links:

📄 File download:

  • <a href="file_link" download> is used to let the user download a file.
